Abstract


Objective: This study was carried out in order to examine about the actual condition of educational program related to internationalization in the Department of Dental Hygiene and about the factors of having influence upon promoting consciousness of internationalization, and to have it as basic data in developing educational program for promoting consciousness of internationalization in dental hygiene students.

Methods: A questionnaire survey was carried out during the period from June 1st to 22nd, 2012 targeting undergraduates for the Department of Dental Hygiene in 3 places of Busan Metropolitan City.

Results: As a result of examining consciousness of internationalization according to research subjects¡¯ general characteristics, it was indicated that the higher school year leads to the higher consciousness of internationalization (p=0.001). As a result of examining consciousness of internationalization according to research subjects¡¯ characteristics related to international programs, The consciousness of internationalization in subjects who have experience of overseas volunteer activity was indicated to be higher (p=0.038). The consciousness of internationalization in subjects who are now studying foreign language stood at 3.34¡¾0.27, thereby having been indicated to be significantly higher (p<0.001). Factors of having influence upon research subjects¡¯ consciousness of internationalization were indicated to be items such as school year (p<0.001), age (p=0.022), experience of overseas volunteer activity (p=0.048), and studying foreign language (p=0.003).

Conclusion: Accordingly, the consciousness level of internationalization will be able to be enhanced by university through opening diverse international programs and inducing students¡¯ participation in programs aiming to promote dental hygiene students¡¯ consciousness of internationalization as the above results.
